Resumes

Your resume is your calling card, and in less than 15 seconds, will determine if you get the chance to interview for a position, or if you end up lost in the file cabinet forever. In this age of electronic information, your resume must also incorporate effective keywords or the resume search tools will pass over you, and recruiters won’t even give you those 15 seconds.

So your resume is important – but it’s not a terrifying mystery – or it shouldn’t be, anyway. Everyone has their own opinion of what a resume should include, or how it should be presented. Given the diversity of opinions, our specialists at FTS have narrowed them down to a few important points to pay attention to when creating your resume.

First, if you can afford a professional -- hire one.

But do not hire just any professional. Many are out to take your money and load your information into a template format – that’s not what you’re looking for. Professional resumes can cost between $300 and $1200, and you should get your money’s worth. So hire the best in the business – Robert Meier. While FTS has no formal relationship with Mr. Meier we can tell you from past experience his resumes make a significant difference for our candidates and insure we are able to get you an interview.

If your reaction is that you can’t afford a professional resume expert – you should reconsider. You’re not hesitating to invest in an interview suit, hair cut, new shoes, training courses, a presentation binder, professional paper, a briefcase, carwash, etc – you need to be just as committed to investing in the one item that can most effectively open or close the door to your new position – your resume. We have had hiring managers ask if they can afford our candidates after seeing a well done resume. This has happened even when the starting salary for the position was tens of thousands of dollars higher than the candidate’s current salary. Put your resources where they’ll be most effective.

Second, if we did not convince you to hire Robert Meier (which you should) please take a look at our sample resumes.

Find one you are comfortable with and rewrite it as your own. Keep in mind the resume is not about you but rather what you can do for your potential employer. Don’t focus on how you’re minimally eligible for the position – focus on how you’re the most suitable candidate for the company’s success.

The questions the employers are looking to answer are:

  1. What does this candidate bring to the table and add to the team in the short and long run?
  2. Does the candidate understand and come from my business – can they speak the geek?
  3. Has this candidate been successful in the past and will they continue to be successful for my team? – Are you a Super Star, Rock Star, or A Player???
  4. What makes this candidate unique? What is their work ethic DNA?

Lastly, if necessary, FTS will recreate your resume for you.

We are not in the business of providing this service and would prefer you chose one of the suggestions above. We only provide this service to candidates we have secured interviews for and the cost to you is $300. We agree on a format offered in our samples and FTS does the work for you.

Again, we prefer for you to create your resume in one of the previous two ways – you should be personally invested in the creation of your resume. But if necessary, FTS will make sure you are properly equipped to get the position we’ve found for you.

We will have about six sample resumes in word format - forth coming to add to this page.
